Principal’s Message

We are looking forward to our Meet the Teacher Open House on Thursday, September 26 from 4:30 to 6:30pm. The purpose of Meet the Teacher is to see your child’s classroom, hear about the programing and expectations as well as ask general questions you may have.

Students are encouraged and welcomed to attend as school council will be hosting a barbeque during this time (one less dinner to cook!).  See School Council’s message below for more information about the barbeque.

Here are the specifics for each program/grade, please review carefully:

  • EES will be reaching out to parents and booking individual appointments.
  • Grades 1-6 will follow an open house format, no bookings required.
  • Presentations will be approximately 20 minutes with 5 to 10 minutes for general questions.
  • Presentations will start at 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, and 6:00pm (every half hour).
  • Doors will be closed during the presentations to avoid interruptions.
  • If you have more than one child, plan your schedule accordingly.
  • Mr. Knuttila’s Kindergarten class will follow the same open house format and schedule as grades 1-6.
  • Ms. Fieldstone’s Kindergarten classes will follow the schedule below due to her teaching both AM and PM kindergarten:
  • AM Kindergarten presentations will be at:
  • 4:30pm and 5:30pm
  • PM Kindergarten presentations will be at:
  • 5:00pm and 6:00pm
  • ** Music room will be open from 4:30 – 6:30 if families would like to drop in to see the space and meet our new music teacher Ms. Kreze.

Terry Fox Run (Volunteers Needed)

We are excited to hold our annual Terry Fox Run on Friday, September 20th, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., weather permitting. Students are reminded to bring their running shoes, water bottles, hats, and sunscreen. Teachers are also collecting “Toonies for Terry” to support cancer research. If you are interested in donating, please have your child bring a toonie to their teacher. You may also donate online to our school page: https://schools.terryfox.ca/72891/donate  When visiting the donation page you will first enter the amount you wish to donate (under the "Donation amount" heading).  The page suggests a starting donation of $25 however you can manually type any amount in.  Once this amount has been entered the payment function appears at the bottom and you can enter your information.

Additionally, we are still in need of more parent volunteers to help guide students along the wetland route or across the street. Please email Mr. Jozsa at ksjozsa@cbe.ab.ca if you are interested in volunteering. Please, note that to volunteer, you must have a valid vulnerable sector police check on file with the school. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the office. Thank you so much for supporting Ron Southern School and the Terry Fox Cancer Foundation

What Is Up with Parent Society!

Our Council welcomes you to join us for our Welcome Back BBQ September 26th during Meet the Teacher! There will be vegan and gluten-free options available. The BBQ will run from 4:30 - 7:00pm. Come and meet your council and fellow community members.

Our school has been given the dates for our Casino fundraiser at Ace Casino Airport. This year we are volunteering Saturday November 30th and Sunday December 1st, 2024. Casino fundraisers bring our school a huge chunk of money that we use to put towards our in-school residencies and to enrich our school's learning environment.  Additionally, this money can help lower or even eliminate field trip costs. However, we cannot hold the Casino fundraiser without our community's volunteers. If you, your family members, or friends are available that weekend, we would greatly appreciate your help! You do not need a police clearance (but do need to be without a police felony), you do not need to have kids at our school. Thank you so much to our awesome community and let's get those 50 spots filled, with how many amazing families we have in Ron Southern I'm sure this will be an easy feat!  Please sign up here.

Ron Southern Parent Society is also excited to announce we have partnered with Mabel’s Labels! This fundraiser will continually run throughout the year, so you may purchase at any time.

Click here and select Ron Southern to support our school and get yourself some very useful name tags, stickers and even a stamp! They are so handy especially with colder weather coming, those jackets and outdoor wear will find their way into the lost and found!
