Our new CBE Education Plan focuses on three pillars:
- Learning Excellence
- Well-Being
- Truth & Reconciliation, Diversity and Inclusion
This year, we are supporting student well-being through a daily wellness block. During this time, teachers help students develop important social-emotional learning (SEL) skills. Research shows that SEL not only improves achievement, but it also increases prosocial behaviors (such as kindness, sharing, and empathy), improves student attitudes toward school, and reduces depression and stress among students (Durlak et al., 2011). In total, there are five key SEL skills. This year, we are focusing on the first skill: Self-Awareness.
High levels of Self-Awareness involve recognizing how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected. This is important because Self-Awareness is the foundation for developing the other four SEL skills. For information on SEL please click here
