Principal’s Message: November
This week is Parent-Teacher Interviews. Please ensure that you have booked your interview time in PowerSchool. It’s important to know how your child is doing in school, and these interviews are an opportunity to have formal conversations with your child’s teachers—ask questions, discuss any specific concerns, and learn more about your child’s learning, progress, and achievement.
Every year we engage with stakeholders and analyze student data to set priorities for the school year. Cumulatively, this work informs our School Development Plan (SDP). We are now in the second year of a three-year cycle. Last year based on student data we landed on the following outcome in math.
Student academic engagement in math will improve through teachers incorporating equity practices into their authentic task design.
Through this outcome we are working towards:
- Empowering student voice and thinking in the math classroom
- Building student confidence and perseverance in learning
- Cultivating a positive mathematical identify for each student
- Developing student ability in mathematical problem-solving

Report Cards Timeline Adjustment
Due to the teacher work stoppage in October, the Calgary Board of Education has adjusted the reporting schedule to better reflect student learning. This extended timeline allows teachers additional time to instruct and assess learning that was impacted during October. Report Cards will be available for parents/guardians and students to access through MyCBE on February 24, 2026
Parking and Safety at Ron Southern
As the winter months are now upon us, we want to remind all our families to abide by traffic safety rules to keep our students safe. Please remember to avoid parking in the staff parking lot and be mindful of the importance of respecting crosswalks. Slow down when approaching crosswalks, and refrain from stopping or backing up into them. With the darker mornings, it's crucial that we exercise extra caution. We appreciate your continued cooperation.
What Is Up with Parent Society!
Thank you to everyone who supported the Purdy's fundraiser. This fundraiser brought in $1,630.27! The pickup date for the Purdy's orders will be December 8th- more details to follow.
Are you interested in becoming more involved with the school? Do you want to work with a team of fellow parents to give the students and teachers the best? On January 12th, we will be voting in new council members to join the Parent Council Board's open positions. Stay tuned for more details!
