We are so proud of our diverse school population and our culture of embracing inclusion. Yesterday, April 2, 2024, was World Autism Awareness Day. This is an internationally recognized day designated to bring awareness to autism spectrum disorder. The theme this year was empowering autistics voices which aims at providing more support and power to the individuals with this condition, in order to ensure they lead a meaningful life and pursue successful careers. As autism is an important part of our diverse community, our teachers continually spend time teaching and discussing the diversity in our community ways to make all students feel included and respected.
We would like to thank Madame Maddie, who is our French as a Second language teacher for our grade 4 to 6 students, for organizing a sweet treat for our first day back from spring break. For generations of Québec children, maple taffy signals the waning of winter and indicates the time of year to go out to the Cabane à Sucre (sugar shack). Traditionally, sap is running, collected and boiled into syrup. It is further concentrated into a thick taffy and poured in a thin ribbon onto compacted snow or crushed ice. Our students loved rolling the freshly poured taffy onto popsicle sticks and enjoying the sweet treat. As residents of Canada, it was wonderful to experience a piece of Francophone culture. Thank you to School Council for supporting this and our parent volunteers that looked very fashionable in their plaid aprons.
